Gaming & AR with Unity

Unity makes a huge difference to us as we're creating games for various platforms. Whether developing for AR or even now as we're working to bring our first title to PlayStation VR, having the familiar element of the editor and various tools can be the difference between launching the game or not. Unity allows us to quickly try out ideas and build optimized games with great graphics for several platforms. Ultimately, it helps us bring more games to players.

Creating Beat Saber was an incredible leap of faith for our team. We were essentially stepping into the unknown, unsure if our concept would be successful. Unity was perfect to help us on this journey and we quickly realized that using Unity, we could accomplish anything we wanted - it's remarkably flexible and easy to use. We started by creating a playable prototype and in just a few hours, we knew the possibilities were endless.

Unity 2021 LTS provides a stable foundation for projects that are in production or about to ship. Unity 2021.3 LTS stream release has the same feature set as the 2021.2 Tech stream release. We’re committed to supporting 2021 LTS releases with biweekly updates until mid-2023, after which updates will be monthly until April 2024 (two years after the initial release date). These updates will only cover fixes aimed at improving the stability of the product to enable users to ship their projects. Unity 2020.3 is now the legacy LTS; it will be updated monthly until it reaches the end of its support cycle in mid-2023.

With Tech Stream releases, you’re the first to try out new features and tools while shaping Unity development through your feedback. Tech Streams are published twice a year, are supported until the next release, and can help you prepare for new feature adoption in projects that are in discovery or prototyping stages.

As with any beta program, you’ll have early access to new features and will be able to assist in the final steps of their development. That means that your experience of Unity is likely to be less stable than a final version. The beta phase begins once all scheduled major features have been included and a quality baseline has been established. Several beta versions will be made available during this phase, and their quality will improve with each iteration.
